How the Calculator Computes Your Duration
The date math behind the results follows the same calendar rules you would apply by hand. The calculator subtracts the start year from the current year, then compares months and days. If the current day-of-month is smaller than the anniversary day, it borrows a month and adds back the number of days in the previous month. If the current month is smaller than the start month, it borrows a year and adds 12 months. The result is an exact "X years, Y months, Z days" split rather than a rounded estimate.
Because it works with the real calendar, the tool handles edge cases correctly. A couple married on February 29, a leap day, is counted with a year marker on February 28 in non-leap years. The total-days figure is computed as a raw difference in milliseconds converted to days, so it reflects the true number of calendar days elapsed — about 2,214 days for a June 15, 2020 start as of today's date. The upcoming-anniversary line searches forward from today for the next occurrence of your anniversary date, and if this year's anniversary has already passed, it rolls to next year automatically.
