BMI Calculator: Check Your Body Mass Index & Know Your Health Category
Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple, widely-used measure to estimate whether you have a healthy body weight for your height. Use the calculator below to find your BMI instantly and see which category you fall into.
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a value derived from your weight and height. It is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters (kg/m2). While it doesn't directly measure body fat, it provides a reliable indicator for most people.
BMI Categories (WHO Standards)
| Category | BMI Range |
|---|---|
| Underweight | Below 18.5 |
| Normal weight | 18.5 - 24.9 |
| Overweight | 25.0 - 29.9 |
| Obese Class I | 30.0 - 34.9 |
| Obese Class II | 35.0 - 39.9 |
| Obese Class III | 40.0 and above |
Limitations of BMI
While BMI is a useful screening tool, it has limitations. Athletes and people with high muscle mass may have a high BMI despite being healthy. Similarly, older adults may have normal BMI but low muscle mass. For a more complete picture, consider also checking your body fat percentage and waist-to-hip ratio.
